Communities Then and Now

This action packed program focuses on family and community life in Canada over the past 104 years.  The excitement begins when your students meet "The Time Traveler"! By adding their family information to a timeline, your class will begin to understand where they are in recent history.  While opening "The Time Travel Trunk" students will participate in the learning by handling and discussing artifacts from the present, 1965, 1932 and 1898. Together your students explore similarities and differences between Now and Then. They will play a game from another era, listen to music from the past, and much more!

During the second half of the program students will explore a community from 1898 to learn about community helpers from the past and compare them with helpers in today's communities. Students will visit a general store, blacksmith shop, carpenter's shop and weaver's shop. They'll play with traditional toys. They'll use a washboard, carders, cow bell and more! Students even make a traditional toy to take home.

This dynamic two hour program designed for Grades 2 - 4 is presented in your classroom so you have no added workload. We bring all the excitement of a field trip into your classroom, and we enhance the curriculum that you are required to teach.
